A little bit odd, scaly form of artichokes makes them really interesting for painting. Also, it has a rich variety of shades from yellow and light green to purple and dark brown. I used lemon yellow and titan white in lights, yellow ochre and cobalt green in middle tones, and mars opaque dark in shadows.
With thin pointed brush I made a repaint to detail a petals texture, its small cracks and fissures, little bruising and roughness. I paid a lot attention to plate, its elegant blue ornament gives a picture some decorativeness. The composition balanced with three pieces of walnuts, arranged around the fruit.
And blue background board I painted in two steps. Firstly I blocked surface with cobalt deep blue using wide bristle brush, and then, after layer drying, took fine brush and detailed the oblong texture of wood.
